What This Skill Does

The book-cover-design skill is a specialized creative assistant designed to help authors, self-publishers, and designers bridge the gap between creative concept and production-ready cover art. By leveraging the power of AI image generation via the inference.sh CLI, this skill enables users to generate high-fidelity, genre-specific imagery. It integrates domain-specific knowledge regarding typography, color theory, and layout conventions—essential elements that communicate the tone and market segment of a book before a reader even reads the blurb.

Installation

To begin using this skill, you must have the inference CLI installed. Run the following command in your terminal:

curl -fsSL https://cli.inference.sh | sh && infsh login

Once logged in, integrate the skill into your OpenClaw environment by running: clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/okaris/book-cover-design

Use Cases

  • Ebook Covers: Designing high-contrast, eye-catching thumbnails for platforms like Amazon KDP.
  • Print-on-Demand: Creating full-bleed wrap-around jackets with appropriate margins for standard trim sizes.
  • Audiobook Covers: Generating square, high-impact visuals that maintain clarity at smaller screen sizes.
  • Mockups: Visualizing multiple design iterations before finalizing a professional commission.

Example Prompts

  1. "I need a cover for a thriller novel about a detective in a rain-soaked city. Create a dark, moody image with high contrast shadows and bold text space at the top."
  2. "Help me design a cover for a science-fiction book. Use a cool blue and silver palette with geometric shapes that hint at advanced technology."
  3. "Generate a minimalist cover concept for a business book on leadership. Use a bold, clean sans-serif layout with a professional, structured aesthetic."

Tips & Limitations

  • Genre Alignment: Always specify the genre in your prompt. A cover designed for a romance novel will require a significantly different palette and typography style compared to a historical or literary fiction book.
  • Thumbnail Testing: AI-generated art can be highly detailed, but remember that the title must remain legible at thumbnail sizes. Test your exports at 100x100 pixels to ensure key elements are visible.
  • Iterative Workflow: Do not settle for the first result. Use the seed parameter in your generation to iterate on successful compositions, refining the typography or lighting as you progress toward your final design.
