What This Skill Does

The Index Cards skill allows your OpenClaw AI agent to design, print, and mail physical greeting cards directly through the mail. Rather than just selecting a digital template, this skill uses generative AI to create unique, custom designs for the front and inside of the card based on your specifications. It handles the entire lifecycle of the card: from brainstorming the occasion and designing the imagery to processing the address and dispatching the physical item via first-class mail.

Installation

To add this capability to your agent, execute the following command in your OpenClaw terminal:

clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/jonwheatley/index-cards

Once installed, the skill requires a free registration at the Index Cards website. After registering, you will obtain an API key that allows the agent to authenticate via the POST /v1/auth/register endpoint to receive a Bearer token for secure printing and mailing.

Use Cases

  • Personalized Occasions: Send birthday, anniversary, or wedding cards with custom AI-generated artwork that matches the recipient's personality.
  • Spontaneous Appreciation: Quickly send a "thank you" card after a meeting or a favor, using the agent to draft a heartfelt message.
  • Holiday Mailing: Manage seasonal greetings like Mother's Day, Valentine's, or Christmas by having the agent track upcoming dates and proactively suggesting card designs.
  • Stylized Correspondence: Use the style-transfer features to turn a casual photo into a watercolor or oil-painting style card.

Example Prompts

  1. "I need to send a birthday card to my sister Sarah; her birthday is next Tuesday. Can you design something with a theme of space exploration?"
  2. "I want to send a 'thank you' card to my boss for the promotion. Make it professional but warm, and let me know when you're ready for the address."
  3. "Check if any of my friends have birthdays coming up in the next month. I want to send a card to anyone who does."

Tips & Limitations

  • Be Conversational: The agent is designed to work with you. It will ask for your input on design choices before generating the final preview.
  • Sequential Generation: To maintain high quality and avoid rate-limiting, the agent generates the front cover first, then the inside message. Be patient as it constructs the card in steps.
  • Content Filters: The tool includes safety filters for image generation. If you use strong language in your prompt, the agent will gracefully rephrase it into something appropriate for the card.
  • Lead Time: Physical mail takes roughly one week to arrive. Plan to initiate requests at least 14 days in advance to ensure timely delivery for specific events.
