News
Personalized news briefings that learn your interests, formats, and timing preferences.
Why use this skill?
Get personalized, multi-source news briefings delivered by your OpenClaw agent. Build a custom interest profile and stay informed with automated, privacy-focused daily digests.
Install via CLI (Recommended)
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/ivangdavila/newsWhat This Skill Does
The News skill is a highly customizable, locally-hosted briefing engine designed for OpenClaw. Unlike generic news aggregators, it builds a deep understanding of your personal information ecosystem. By maintaining a structured memory repository in ~/news/, it tracks your specific interest proportions (e.g., 60% cybersecurity, 40% venture capital), preferred delivery formats, and engagement history. The skill acts as an intelligent curator that filters noise, ensures multi-source verification for contested topics, and adapts its delivery schedule to fit your lifestyle—whether that is a quick morning bulleted list or a deep-dive evening narrative.
Installation
To integrate this skill into your OpenClaw agent, execute the following command in your terminal:
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/ivangdavila/news
Once installed, ensure you have initialized your configuration files. Navigate to your workspace and ensure the ~/news/ directory is created. Refer to memory-template.md to define your initial preferences. For ongoing updates and improvements, run clawhub sync periodically.
Use Cases
- Professional Situational Awareness: Analysts can monitor niche markets or technical sectors without wading through generalized headlines.
- Bias Mitigation: Users who want to see multiple perspectives on controversial topics will benefit from the skill's multi-source requirement.
- Efficient Time Management: Instead of browsing news feeds, receive a curated digest at a specific time that matches your cognitive capacity (e.g., summary bullets in the morning, analytical articles in the evening).
- Learning & Adaptation: Use this for continuous professional development as the agent tracks what you click and adjusts future briefings to favor higher-value content.
Example Prompts
- "Give me a morning briefing. Focus on AI regulations and semiconductor supply chains, 50/50 split. Keep it to 5 bullet points."
- "I'm interested in the latest developments regarding the recent infrastructure bill; provide a balanced summary using multiple sources and note any editorial leanings."
- "Based on my reading history, what topics should I focus on this week, and can you adjust my profile to emphasize renewable energy a bit more?"
Tips & Limitations
- Specificity is Key: The skill learns best when you are explicit. Avoid broad terms like "tech"; instead, specify "LLM benchmarks" or "cloud computing security."
- Respect the Hierarchy: The skill enforces a "Facts First, Analysis Second" rule. If you feel the analysis is too light, ask for a deep dive on a specific story.
- Privacy First: This skill is strictly local. All your data, from interest profiles to history, stays within your
~/news/directory. It does not phone home with your personal reading habits. - Source Management: Regularly review
~/news/sources.mdto ensure your trusted sources are up to date and reflective of your desired viewpoints.
