What This Skill Does

The Friends skill is an intelligent relationship management system for OpenClaw that transforms how you track, nurture, and maintain your social connections. Instead of treating relationships as mere data points, the skill utilizes a human-centric approach, organizing your social life into structured markdown files within a dedicated ~/friends/ directory. It monitors your interactions to track relationship health, identifying when a friendship might be fading or when a specific life event, such as a career change or a move, warrants a thoughtful check-in. By categorizing friends into circles—Inner, Close, Wider, and Reconnecting—the skill helps you prioritize your social time effectively, ensuring your most valued connections receive consistent attention.

Installation

To integrate the Friends skill into your OpenClaw agent, execute the following command in your terminal: clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/ivangdavila/friends Once installed, the skill will initialize the ~/friends/ directory structure, including specialized sub-folders for your circles and a check-ins.md file for daily relationship maintenance.

Use Cases

  • Proactive Maintenance: Receive gentle nudges when you haven't spoken to an inner-circle friend in over a month, preventing long-term drifts.
  • Life Event Tracking: Store critical personal context, such as birthdays, job changes, or health struggles, to ensure you are the friend who remembers what actually matters.
  • Social Strategy: Analyze the balance of your friendships—such as who initiates contact more often—to ensure your social circle remains healthy and reciprocal.

Example Prompts

  1. "I had a great dinner with Carlos tonight. He mentioned he's feeling really overwhelmed with his new project at work; please log this and set a reminder for me to check in with him next week."
  2. "It's been a while since I've spoken to Maria. Can you check her file and tell me when we last interacted and what our last conversation was about?"
  3. "Ana just moved to Berlin for a new job. Please update her contact file with her new location and add a note to see how her transition is going in two weeks."

Tips & Limitations

To get the most out of this skill, be consistent with your input; the more context you provide during interactions, the better the AI can help you maintain those bonds. The skill is designed to be a personal assistant, not a social media scraper, so rely on manual input to keep the tone personal. Be aware that this skill performs local file management, ensuring all your data remains private on your device. It does not automatically scrape your emails or messages, so it relies on your proactive reporting of interactions to function accurately.
