Aave
Assist with Aave lending, borrowing, liquidations, and risk management across chains.
Why use this skill?
Master Aave DeFi with this skill. Lend, borrow, manage liquidations & risk across chains, understand GHO, and optimize your positions with expert insights.
Install via CLI (Recommended)
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/ivangdavila/aaveWhat This Skill Does
The Aave skill provides comprehensive assistance for interacting with the Aave decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol. It enables users to manage their lending and borrowing activities across multiple blockchain networks supported by Aave V3. Key functionalities include supplying assets to earn interest, borrowing assets against collateral, understanding and monitoring liquidation risk via the Health Factor, and leveraging advanced features like E-Mode for enhanced efficiency with correlated assets. The skill also covers Aave's native stablecoin, GHO, and the governance aspects of the AAVE token.
Core concepts are explained, such as how depositing assets earns you aTokens which automatically accrue interest. Borrowing requires collateral and is subject to LTV ratios. The critical Health Factor, calculated as (Collateral × Liquidation Threshold) / Borrowed, must remain above 1.0 to avoid liquidation. The skill can help users understand these metrics and actions to take, like adding collateral or repaying debt, to maintain a safe position. It also clarifies the mechanics of liquidations, including penalties and potential partial closures of positions.
With Aave deployed on multiple chains (Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, and more), this skill helps navigate these deployments, recognizing that while the interface is similar, market specifics like asset availability and interest rates can vary. It also touches upon the use of bridged assets and cross-chain functionalities like Portals.
Installation
To install the Aave skill, use the following command:
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/ivangdavila/aave
This command will download and integrate the skill into your OpenClaw environment, granting you access to its Aave-related functionalities. The source repository is openclaw/skills.
Use Cases
- Lending and Earning Interest: Supply stablecoins or other supported assets to earn passive income through interest accrual on aTokens.
- Borrowing against Collateral: Leverage your existing crypto assets by borrowing other assets, such as stablecoins, using your supplied assets as collateral.
- Risk Management: Actively monitor your Health Factor to prevent liquidations, especially during periods of high market volatility.
- Optimizing Borrowing: Utilize E-Mode when borrowing assets that are highly correlated (e.g., stablecoins against stablecoins) to achieve higher Loan-to-Value ratios.
- Understanding GHO: Learn about Aave's native stablecoin, GHO, how it's minted, and its associated benefits or risks.
- Cross-Chain Management: If Aave is deployed on multiple chains you use, understand how to manage assets and positions across these networks.
Example Prompts
- "What is my current Health Factor for my Aave position on Polygon and how can I improve it?"
- "Explain how to supply USDC to Aave on Arbitrum and what aTokens I will receive."
- "What is the liquidation threshold for ETH when used as collateral on Aave mainnet?"
Tips & Limitations
- Active Monitoring is Key: DeFi protocols like Aave are dynamic. Prices fluctuate, affecting your Health Factor. Regularly check your positions and act proactively to manage risk.
- Understand Rates: Differentiate between variable and stable borrowing rates. Stable rates offer predictability but are typically higher than variable rates, which can change based on market conditions.
- Liquidity Constraints: While you can usually withdraw assets freely, high utilization ratios on specific assets can temporarily block withdrawals. Be aware of this possibility.
- Cross-Chain Nuances: When operating across multiple chains, pay close attention to the specific Aave market on each chain, as asset availability, rates, and even bridged asset denominations (e.g., USDC vs. USDC.e) can differ.
- E-Mode Risks: While E-Mode offers higher LTVs, it also increases liquidation risk due to the tighter margin between collateral value and borrowing limits. It's best suited for users who understand and can actively manage this increased risk.
- GHO Minting: Minting GHO involves taking on debt, albeit a native stablecoin. Always ensure you have sufficient collateralization to avoid liquidation.
- AAVE Token Staking: Staking AAVE in the Safety Module carries a risk of slashing if the protocol faces a shortfall. Understand this risk before committing funds.
