What This Skill Does

Designers Eye provides a professional, theory-backed critique engine for any visual asset. Rather than offering subjective opinions, this skill applies 11 rigorous design frameworks—ranging from Gestalt principles and colour science to Nielsen/Norman usability heuristics—to evaluate your work. When you upload a UI design, logo, photo, or graphic, the agent performs a deep-dive analysis and returns a prioritized action list categorized by impact: Critical, Important, and Polish. It is designed to act as a seasoned design lead, identifying exactly what is broken, what is functional, and where visual cohesion can be improved.

Installation

To integrate this professional critique tool into your OpenClaw environment, execute the following command in your terminal: clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/couriard/design-critique

Use Cases

  • Product Design & UI/UX: Validate mobile app screens or web layouts against WCAG accessibility standards and information hierarchy principles.
  • Branding & Identity: Audit new logo concepts for visual balance, scalability, and Gestalt impact.
  • Marketing & Graphics: Analyze advertisement layouts to ensure high signal-to-noise ratios and effective use of composition.
  • Document Design: Review PDFs, slides, and reports for readability, typography, and grid-based structure.

Example Prompts

  1. "[Uploads screenshot] Perform a critique on this checkout page. Is the information hierarchy clear, and does it meet usability standards?"
  2. "I am struggling with the colour palette for this landing page. Can you apply Itten's colour science to suggest better harmony and ensure WCAG compliance?"
  3. "Here is my logo draft. Critique it based on Gestalt principles—is it too cluttered or is the figure/ground relationship effective?"

Tips & Limitations

  • High-Quality Uploads: For the best results, ensure your image exports are high resolution. While the skill can process various formats, clear screenshots or raw exports from design tools like Figma provide more accurate data.
  • Focus on Action: If you have a specific goal, mention it in your prompt (e.g., 'focus specifically on readability').
  • Contextual Awareness: The skill excels at structural and theory-based feedback but does not know your specific business context. If a design choice is intentional for branding, let the AI know so it doesn't flag it as an error.
  • Accessibility: While the tool checks for general WCAG principles, always run final products through dedicated automated accessibility testing suites for absolute compliance validation.
