What This Skill Does

The instagram-search skill provides a high-powered interface to query over 400 million Instagram posts, reels, and profiles. Unlike the official Meta Graph API, which is notoriously restrictive and requires an exhaustive app review process, this skill leverages the Xpoz MCP framework to bypass traditional developer constraints. It features comprehensive full-text indexing, meaning it searches not only user-written captions but also transcribed video subtitles, allowing you to find niche content based on spoken audio. It is the premier choice for influencer discovery, competitive market analysis, and hashtag tracking.

Installation

To begin, ensure you have the OpenClaw agent environment set up. Run the following command in your terminal: clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/atyachin/instagram-search Once installed, you must authenticate the connection. Run mcporter call xpoz.setup and follow the on-screen prompts. Verify your connectivity by executing mcporter call xpoz.checkAccessKeyStatus to confirm that your access key is active and ready for data extraction.

Use Cases

This skill is designed for marketers, researchers, and content creators. Use it to conduct influencer marketing campaigns by finding creators who discuss specific topics (e.g., 'sustainable fashion' or 'tech reviews'). It is also invaluable for social listening, allowing users to track how a brand or hashtag is being discussed across 400M+ data points. Furthermore, researchers use this to export large datasets into CSV format for external analysis, bypassing the manual pagination limits usually imposed by social platforms.

Example Prompts

  1. "Find me the top 20 fitness influencers who mention 'home workout' and have posted within the last 30 days."
  2. "Search for posts and reels talking about 'renewable energy' and 'solar panels' and export the results to a CSV file."
  3. "Look up the profile for 'natgeo' and fetch their most recent post activity to see what they are currently focusing on."

Tips & Limitations

To get the best results, use boolean operators such as AND, OR, and NOT to refine your search queries. For example, '(vegan OR plant-based) AND recipe' yields much cleaner data than simple keywords. Keep in mind that while the search is powerful, it is subject to the indexing speed of the Xpoz backend. Always poll the operation status using the returned operationId after launching a search to ensure you capture the full data set. The CSV export feature supports up to 64,000 rows, so plan your data requests accordingly if you are conducting massive historical analysis.
