openclaw-expert
OpenClaw self-hosted AI agent framework expert. Trigger for: openclaw.json, gateway, channels, models, skills, agents, secrets, cron, sandbox, memory, multi-agent, bindings, dmPolicy, SecretRef, session config, workspace files (AGENTS.md, SOUL.md, MEMORY.md), troubleshooting, security hardening. Covers installation, configuration, channel setup, memory tuning, Docker deployment.
Install via CLI (Recommended)
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/arn0ld87/openclaw-expertWhat This Skill Does
The openclaw-expert skill acts as your primary navigation and maintenance assistant for the OpenClaw self-hosted AI framework. It encapsulates the core operational knowledge required to manage the gateway, configure multi-agent environments, and optimize workspace files. This skill provides an interactive interface to the framework's internal architecture, handling everything from JSON5 configuration syntax (openclaw.json) to complex deployments on local hardware or Pi clusters. It is designed to act as an on-call system administrator that understands the specific hierarchy of the ~/.openclaw/ structure, including critical files like AGENTS.md, SOUL.md, and MEMORY.md, ensuring your agents maintain their integrity and personality across sessions.
Installation
To integrate this expert skill into your OpenClaw environment, execute the following command in your terminal:
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/arn0ld87/openclaw-expert
Ensure that you have appropriate write permissions to your local ~/.openclaw/ directory, as the skill may need to assist in generating or validating workspace configuration files. After installation, verify the setup by running openclaw doctor to ensure the skill is recognized and the gateway is communicating correctly.
Use Cases
- Gateway Maintenance: Troubleshoot connection issues, manage systemd services, and optimize RPC gateway latency.
- Agent Orchestration: Designing multi-agent flows, managing secrets via the credentials directory, and setting up persistent memory windows.
- Configuration Auditing: Validating the
openclaw.jsonschema and ensuring that trailing commas and comments are correctly placed for JSON5 compatibility. - Workspace Optimization: Automating the updates of SOUL.md or IDENTITY.md to reflect changes in agent behavior or priority.
- Security Hardening: Configuring file permissions for the credentials directory (chmod 600) and managing secure access to your AI gateway.
Example Prompts
- "Check my current openclaw.json for potential syntax errors and verify if my gateway is currently listening on the correct port."
- "I need to update my agent's personality. How do I modify SOUL.md and MEMORY.md to ensure the agent remembers my preferences without cluttering the main context?"
- "The agent is failing to execute its cron jobs. Can you help me audit the jobs.json file and check the latest heartbeat logs in the workspace/memory directory?"
Tips & Limitations
Always prioritize the 'Docs-First + Backup-First' principle. Because OpenClaw follows a rapid CalVer release schedule, always verify your version with openclaw --version before applying significant config changes. Note that this skill cannot physically restart your hardware; it can only interface with the systemd gateway. If a deployment involves major architecture changes, manually verify the backup in ~/.openclaw/backups before proceeding with any automated writes.
