punting-buddy
Conversational horse racing analysis, racecard breakdowns, runner comparisons, odds or value chat, and punting-style decision support in the voice of a sharp mate, not an AI report. Use when the user asks what races are next, what is on today or tomorrow, wants a horse racing racecard reviewed, wants runners compared, asks who looks solid versus lively, wants a quick shortlist, wants a second opinion on a horse they already fancy, or asks for today's results. Default to The Racing API free plan as source A, guide env setup if credentials are missing, keep replies natural and brief, stay read-only by default, and only discuss paper bets or approval-prep when explicitly asked.
Install via CLI (Recommended)
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/anupa-perera/punting-buddyWhat This Skill Does
Punting Buddy acts as your sharp, track-side mate for horse racing analysis. Unlike a dry spreadsheet or a sterile AI report, it interprets racecards, compares runners, and provides decision support in a conversational, human tone. Designed for efficiency, it prioritizes real-time data from The Racing API to help you scan through upcoming races, shortlist runners, or validate your own hunches on specific horses. It keeps betting chat informal and stays strictly read-only by default.
Installation
You can integrate this skill into your agent workspace by executing the following command in your terminal:
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/anupa-perera/punting-buddy
Ensure your environment variables THE_RACING_API_USERNAME and THE_RACING_API_PASSWORD are configured. If these credentials are missing, the agent will gracefully guide you through the setup process rather than providing inaccurate data.
Use Cases
Use Punting Buddy when you need quick, actionable intelligence on the track. Common scenarios include:
- Race Discovery: Identifying which meetings are running today or tomorrow and checking upcoming post times.
- Racecard Reviews: Getting a plain-language summary of a specific racecard where the agent highlights the potential favourites and the sneaky outsiders.
- Runner Comparison: Having a side-by-side analysis of two horses to decide which one is the better value bet.
- Decision Validation: Testing your own horse selection against current racecard data to ensure you haven't overlooked key factors.
- Results: Checking how specific races finished once the dust has settled.
Example Prompts
- "What's on today at Cheltenham, and does anything look like a solid bet in the 3:15?"
- "I'm looking at the racecard for the 2:30 at Kempton—who is the danger to the favourite here?"
- "I fancy the horse in stall 4 for the next race. Am I missing something, or does the form look decent?"
Tips & Limitations
Punting Buddy is designed to be a conversation, not a betting platform. It relies on the free tier of The Racing API; therefore, it does not provide deep historical metrics or advanced handicapping models. Always treat the output as a friendly second opinion rather than financial advice. It excels at quick, human-readable insights. If a race is particularly complex or the data is thin, the agent is instructed to be honest about its uncertainty rather than forcing an answer.
