strategic-alignment

Cascades strategy from boardroom to individual contributor. Detects and fixes misalignment between company goals and team execution. Covers strategy articulation, cascade mapping, orphan goal detection, silo identification, communication gap analysis, and realignment protocols. Use when teams are pulling in different directions, OKRs don't connect, departments optimize locally at company expense, or when user mentions alignment, strategy cascade, silo, conflicting OKRs, or strategy communication.

What This Skill Does

The Strategic Alignment skill is an enterprise-grade framework designed to bridge the gap between executive strategy and individual execution. It acts as an organizational diagnostic tool that maps the cascading flow of goals, detects broken connections, and identifies structural dysfunction. By implementing a rigorous logic for OKR (Objective and Key Results) mapping, the skill prevents the common 'telephone game' of corporate strategy, where the original intent of a mission becomes distorted as it trickles down through departments. It identifies orphan goals that lack strategic anchoring, highlights cross-functional silos that create competing incentives, and provides a structured protocol to fix misalignments before they manifest as operational failures or revenue loss. Through the 'Strategy Articulation Test,' the skill forces leadership to refine communication before attempting a cascade, ensuring that teams are not just busy, but busy with the right priorities.

Installation

To integrate this skill into your environment, use the OpenClaw terminal command: clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/alirezarezvani/strategic-alignment

Ensure your local development environment has the necessary access to organizational goal documentation, preferably in a structured format like JSON or CSV, to allow the analysis engine to parse your existing OKRs efficiently.

Use Cases

  • Quarterly Planning Cycles: Use this before finalizing OKRs to ensure every team objective contributes to the corporate bottom line.
  • Silo Breakdown: Deploy when cross-functional teams are consistently experiencing friction or blaming each other for poor outcomes.
  • M&A Integration: Use to align legacy team structures and goals with the new, unified post-acquisition strategy.
  • Strategy Refresh: Run the articulation test whenever a company pivots to ensure everyone is moving in the new direction at the same speed.

Example Prompts

  1. "I'm worried our engineering team is building features that don't match our Q3 goals. Can you help me audit our current OKRs and map them to our top-level strategy?"
  2. "We have two departments, Sales and Product, that seem to be working against each other. How can I use the alignment checker to identify where our incentives are conflicting?"
  3. "Our leadership team just announced a new pivot. How do I facilitate a strategy cascade session so that every contributor understands how their daily work supports this new direction?"

Tips & Limitations

  • Start with the Articulation Test: Do not attempt to fix a broken cascade if the company strategy itself is fuzzy. If the leadership team cannot define the strategy in one clear sentence, the cascade will inevitably fail.
  • The 'Orphan' Rule: Be ruthless with orphan goals. If a task or objective cannot be explicitly mapped to a parent OKR, it should be considered 'strategic drift' and either cut or re-evaluated.
  • Limitations: This skill relies on the quality of input data. It is a diagnostic and facilitation framework; it requires human leadership to make the difficult decisions regarding goal pruning and realignment. It cannot force cultural change, but it provides the empirical evidence necessary to make that change unavoidable.
