segment
Segment — manage sources, destinations, events, and tracking plans via Config & Tracking APIs
Install via CLI (Recommended)
clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/aiwithabidi/segmentWhat This Skill Does
The Segment skill for OpenClaw provides a robust interface for interacting with the Segment Config and Tracking APIs. It allows agents to perform comprehensive lifecycle management of customer data infrastructure. Users can programmatically audit existing sources, destinations, and warehouses, or dynamically provision new tracking setups. By leveraging this skill, your AI agent acts as a Data Infrastructure Engineer, capable of checking sync statuses, retrieving tracking plan specifications, and triggering event data payloads directly through CLI commands. It abstracts the complexity of the Segment API, allowing you to manage your entire data pipeline through simple natural language commands or automated scripts.
Installation
To install this skill, use the standard OpenClaw hub command: clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/aiwithabidi/segment. Once installed, ensure you have configured your environment variables. You must set SEGMENT_ACCESS_TOKEN for administrative access to your workspace configurations and SEGMENT_WRITE_KEY to enable event-based tracking operations. These are required for any commands that interact with the Segment backend.
Use Cases
This skill is ideal for teams that manage high-volume customer data. Use it to automatically audit destination connectivity after a pipeline deployment, generate reports on current tracking plans to ensure data governance, or provision new data sources during microservice expansion. It is particularly effective in CI/CD pipelines where you need to verify that new environments have correctly configured destinations before enabling production data flow.
Example Prompts
- "List all active destinations connected to our production Segment source and check if the Salesforce warehouse is enabled."
- "Get the details of the latest tracking plan and identify which events are marked as mandatory."
- "Send a test identify event with user ID 'user_123' and traits including email and subscription status to verify the write key."
Tips & Limitations
When using the --human flag, output is transformed into readable text, which is perfect for chat interfaces; however, for programmatic usage within other agent chains, leave it as JSON for easier parsing. Note that this skill requires administrative-level API tokens for config management; ensure your access tokens are stored in an encrypted vault. The skill is currently limited to the endpoints exposed by the CLI; complex batch processing of event histories should be handled through direct API streams if high-performance ingestion is required.
