What This Skill Does

The Buffer skill for OpenClaw provides a robust interface for managing your social media presence directly through the command line or via an AI agent. It acts as a bridge between your OpenClaw agent and the Buffer API, allowing for seamless scheduling, profile management, and analytics retrieval. Whether you are a solo creator or managing enterprise accounts, this skill automates the friction of manual posting by enabling programmatically driven updates. You can list all your connected social profiles, queue new content for specific channels, review your pending posts to ensure your content calendar is on track, and analyze the performance of previously published content. Furthermore, the skill supports queue management features like shuffling, which helps in maintaining an organic and unpredictable feed cadence.

Installation

To integrate this skill into your OpenClaw environment, ensure you have the OpenClaw CLI configured correctly. Run the following command in your terminal:

clawhub install openclaw/skills/skills/aiwithabidi/buffer

Once installed, you must define your BUFFER_ACCESS_TOKEN as an environment variable. Obtain this token from your Buffer developer dashboard. Without this credential, the skill will be unable to authenticate with the Buffer platform.

Use Cases

  • Automated Social Campaigns: Schedule a week's worth of content by piping text outputs from an AI writer directly into the Buffer queue.
  • Performance Monitoring: Automatically pull stats from sent posts to determine which topics resonate most with your audience.
  • Queue Management: Programmatically reorder your content calendar for better engagement using the shuffle command.
  • Multi-Platform Syncing: Quickly blast updates across multiple social profiles without navigating through the Buffer web dashboard.

Example Prompts

  1. "Check my connected Buffer profiles and list their IDs so I can start scheduling."
  2. "Schedule this post: 'Excited to announce our new feature launch!' to my LinkedIn profile, and check my pending queue afterwards."
  3. "Show me the statistics for my last 5 published posts on my Twitter account to see how they performed."

Tips & Limitations

  • Rate Limiting: Always be mindful of the Buffer API rate limits. High-frequency updates or mass scheduling may hit thresholds.
  • Token Security: Never hardcode your BUFFER_ACCESS_TOKEN in scripts. Use a secure environment variable manager.
  • Contextual Awareness: The skill requires the correct profile-id. Always run the profiles command first if you are unsure which ID corresponds to which social handle to avoid posting to the wrong account.
  • Content Length: Ensure your post content adheres to the character limits of the specific social network, as the Buffer API will reject posts that exceed these maximums.
