Install via CLI (Recommended)

The awesome-phd-cv skill provides a comprehensive suite of LaTeX templates specifically curated for the unique needs of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and academics. Whether you are aiming for high-density academic CVs to showcase years of publications, or ATS-optimized resumes for competitive industry roles in big tech, this skill provides the underlying structure and formatting to ensure your profile stands out. It abstracts the complexity of LaTeX, offering three standardized, industry-vetted formats: the ATS-safe 'Jake's format', the information-dense 'Deedy' format, and the professional 'Awesome-CV' style.
Installation
To start using these templates, ensure you have a full TeX distribution installed on your system. For macOS, use brew install --cask mactex. For Ubuntu/Debian, run sudo apt-get install texlive-full. Once the environment is ready, clone the repository via git clone https://github.com/LimHyungTae/Awesome-PhD-CV.git. Users opting for the XeLaTeX-based templates (Deedy or Awesome-CV) must also ensure they have the necessary font dependencies installed, specifically fonts-font-awesome and texlive-xetex on Linux environments. No additional configuration is required to begin editing the provided .tex files.
Use Cases
- Industry Transition: Utilize the 'Jake's format' for software engineering, quantitative research, or data science roles where resume parsers (ATS) are the primary gatekeepers.
- Academic Applications: Use the 'Awesome-CV' template to compile a comprehensive, multi-page document that includes research interests, publications, teaching experience, and invited talks for faculty applications.
- Tech Leadership: Apply the 'Deedy' format to create a professional, high-density, two-column layout that effectively displays extensive project portfolios for experienced tech professionals.
Example Prompts
- "OpenClaw, help me populate the jakes-format resume with my recent internship at Google as a Research Intern, focusing on my work with LLMs."
- "I need to prepare for a tenure-track application. Please guide me on how to best structure my publication list within the Awesome-CV template."
- "Can you explain the differences between the Deedy format and Jake's format so I can decide which one is better for a CV going to a series-A startup?"
Tips & Limitations
To maximize the effectiveness of these templates, always prioritize consistency in your verb choices and bullet point length. While these templates are designed to be robust, avoid overly complex LaTeX macros if you are not comfortable debugging them, as compilation errors in TeX can be difficult to diagnose for beginners. Ensure that your output PDF remains searchable by avoiding images or graphics that flatten the text, especially for ATS-critical resumes. Finally, always keep a plain text backup of your work to ensure your data remains portable across different environments.
